Custom 3D Printed Motorcycle Tire Balancer

Problem Solving Through Rapid Prototyping After discovering a nail in my brand new rear motorcycle tire, I decided to repair rather than replace it to save unnecessary costs. I utilized a manual tire changer to dismount the rubber and apply a permanent internal patch. However, re-mounting the tire required balancing to prevent high speed vibration. Rather than purchasing an expensive commercial balancing stand, I designed and fabricated a custom solution using FDM 3D printing.
Design & Execution I CAD-modeled two support blocks, each designed to cradle two ball bearings, allowing a smooth steel axle shaft to rotate with near zero friction. To ensure the wheel was perfectly concentric on the temporary axle, I designed a stepped spacer. This single printed component automatically located and centered the inner radius of the wheel hub.

Custom Mechanical Tooling

Dismounting the rear motorcycle wheel to apply a permanent internal patch to a punctured, near-new tire.
Isometric model of the 3D-printed support block, with dual ball bearing pockets spaced to cradle the central steel shaft for low friction rotation
Multi tiered stepped cone model designed to automatically center the steel axle within the wheel hub bearing without requiring multiple custom shims or prints.
Physical static balancing setup showing the 3D printed block supporting the axle between the twin bearings, with the stepped spacer maintaining concentric alignment inside the motorcycle wheel hub.
